When I was first married, John and Dad and I went to see Garnet Rogers at the Folkal Point in Ellicott City, but I first heard this song (Night Drive) in the fall of 2004. I loved it so much I bought the CD and listened to it over and over again, but it took a while for it to dawn on me what it was about. Garnet's brother, Stan Rogers, was an incredible folk singer who died in a plane fire in 1983. Dad and I used to listen to Stan in the 1980s. This song is Garnet's tribute to Stan. There's something about the line: "Your eyes were keen and bright in the dashboard light." that reminds me of long car drives when I was a child. At night, when everyone was sleeping except Dad and me, I'd stare up at the stars in the night sky and ask Dad about the universe. I could see his eyes, the only time he wore glasses, reflecting back at me in the rearview mirror. I played this song for Linda and Dad on New Year's Eve 2004 during one of our last visits.
