I got an email from the director of the SWI (social welfare institute) today. I had written to her right after I got TA, but after a day or two with no response I didn't expect to hear back. We're not technically supposed to contact the SWI directly, but I really wanted to try to get C's medical records and surgical report (and of course I was hoping for a picture or update). The director has promised to give the records to me in Nanchang. She also attached three pictures of C, taken TODAY! I would not have recognized her; she has grown so much. She's much bigger than I was thinking she'd be, though it's hard to tell from the pictures exactly what her dimensions are. I suspect she has grown a lot since she had her surgery. As thrilled as I am, I wonder if today was the day that she was separated from her foster mother (the older woman in the picture). Sometimes the children stay in the SWI for a while before the adoption. I can hardly bear the the thought of that.
